The Board Game Manufacturing Gap
The Three Gaps Every Game Creator Faces
And exactly how we close each one — before it costs you time, money, or backer trust.
Disconnected Supply Chains Kill Timelines
Most board game creators stitch together 4–6 different vendors — printer in country A, component maker in country B, assembler in country C. One delay anywhere cascades into missed Kickstarter fulfillment dates, angry backers, and penalty fees from distributors.
How we fix it
Cards, boards, dice, tokens, miniatures, boxes, and rulebooks — all manufactured, printed, and assembled under one roof. One timeline, one point of contact, one QC standard. Your game ships complete, on time.
Inconsistent Quality Across Components
Your cards look great but the box feels flimsy. The miniatures have visible mold lines. The rulebook colors don't match the card backs. When components come from different factories, quality drift is inevitable — and it destroys the premium feel your game deserves.
How we fix it
Every component passes through the same QC gate, under the same roof, to the same standard. Color calibration across cards, boards, and boxes using spectrophotometer matching. Your unboxing experience is cohesive, premium, and repeatable.
Hidden Costs & Pricing Surprises
The quote says one price, but then come the mold fees, the plate charges, the color-matching surcharges, the assembly upcharges, the freight forwarder's "handling fees." By the time your game lands, your per-unit cost has doubled — and your margin is gone.
How we fix it
One quote covers everything — tooling, materials, printing, finishing, assembly, shrink-wrapping, and shipping to your door. No surprise surcharges, no hidden fees, no "we forgot to mention" extras. What we quote is what you pay.

Foil Stamping
Hot-stamped metallic foil applied to cards, boxes, and rulebook covers. Available in gold, silver, copper, holographic, and custom metallic Pantone colors.
Ideal For
Game box titles, card backs, rulebook covers, collector's editions
- ● Hot foil (gold, silver, copper, holo)
- ● Custom metallic Pantone colors
- ● Applicable to paper, board, and rigid boxes
- ● Precision registration ±0.5mm
Embossing/Debossing
Raised (embossed) or recessed (debossed) relief patterns pressed into paper and board. Creates a tactile, premium feel on boxes, cards, and rulebooks.
Ideal For
Luxury box exteriors, card game packaging, rulebook covers, logo treatments
- ● Single-level or multi-level depth
- ● Registered to printed artwork
- ● Available on 250gsm+ stocks
- ● Combined with foil for best effect
Spot UV
High-gloss clear varnish applied to select areas of a matte surface. Creates a striking contrast between glossy and matte — draws the eye to key art elements.
Ideal For
Game board highlights, card art elements, logo accents, box cover details
- ● Gloss-on-matte contrast effect
- ● Precision registration ±0.3mm
- ● Scratch-resistant cured finish
- ● Can highlight text, logos, or art
Linen Finish
A cross-hatch textured surface applied to paper stock or lamination. Mimics the look and feel of fine linen fabric — understated, elegant, and highly tactile.
Ideal For
Premium card games, luxury game boards, collector's box wraps, rulebook covers
- ● Fine or coarse linen texture options
- ● Applied via paper stock or lamination film
- ● Reduces fingerprint visibility
- ● Pairs well with foil stamping
Metallic Ink
Pantone metallic and pearlescent inks printed offset. Subtler than foil but adds depth and shimmer to large areas where foil would be impractical.
Ideal For
Card backgrounds, board game maps, rulebook interior pages, token designs
- ● Pantone Premium Metallics range
- ● Pearlescent and shimmer options
- ● Consistent across full print run
- ● Cost-effective for large areas
Edge Painting
Colored or metallic paint applied to the edges of card decks. Creates a dramatic monolith look when the deck is stacked, revealing color only on the edges.
Ideal For
Collector card decks, premium game boxes, deluxe editions, gift sets
- ● Solid color or metallic edge paint
- ● Gilding (gold/silver edge)
- ● Matte or glossy finish
- ● Minimum 52-card deck

Testimonials
Trusted by Game Publishers Worldwide
"We ran a $180K Kickstarter campaign for our dungeon crawler board game with 2,700 backers. LeelineToys handled everything — cards, double-layer player boards, 40+ miniatures, custom dice, and the magnetic-closure box. The production quality exceeded our prototype samples, and they delivered all 2,700 units to our 3PL on the exact date they promised 6 months earlier. We are now on our second expansion with them."
James Morrison
Founder, Iron Drake Games (Kickstarter Creator)
"As a game design studio creating educational titles for school districts, safety certification is non-negotiable. LeelineToys provided full EN71, ASTM F963, and CPSIA documentation with every shipment — audit-ready. The card stock is durable enough for classroom use, the box construction withstands library checkout cycles, and they localized our math game into 4 languages without a single translation registration error."

FAQ About Board Game Manufacturing
Your Board Game Questions, Answered
Everything you need to know about custom board game manufacturing — from MOQ and materials to IP protection and international shipping.
Our standard MOQ starts at 500 units for most board games and card games — significantly lower than the industry standard of 2,000–5,000 units. For card-only games (deck + tuck box), MOQ can be as low as 300 units. For games with miniatures, the MOQ is 500 units minimum. We also offer prototype-only production runs: receive 2–3 complete physical samples of your game with your exact materials, finishes, and packaging — ideal for Kickstarter photography, retailer pitch meetings, or playtester distribution. No commitment to mass production required.
IP protection is non-negotiable in our process. We sign a mutual NDA before you share any design files. Your molds, printing plates, and custom tooling are owned by you — contractually guaranteed. We never reuse, repurpose, or share client artwork, designs, or game mechanics. Our factory is audited for IP compliance, and digital files are stored on encrypted, access-controlled servers. Upon project completion, we can certify file destruction or archive files under your exclusive access. We are also comfortable working with your existing NDA template.
A typical board game project timeline: File review and prepress setup (2–3 days), prototype production (5–7 days), your review and revision (2–3 days), full production (15–25 days for card-based games, 25–40 days for games with miniatures), quality inspection (2–3 days), shipping (15–25 days sea, 5–7 days air). Total timeline: approximately 30–45 days for card/board games, 45–60 days for miniature-heavy games. Rush production is available for time-sensitive launches. We provide weekly progress updates with photos via your preferred communication channel.
Yes — this is one of our core strengths. Unlike manufacturers who specialize in only one component type, we produce every component under one roof: cards, boards, dice, tokens, miniatures, inserts, boxes, and rulebooks. Miniatures are injection-molded (PVC, ABS, or resin) and can be supplied unpainted, primed, or fully painted. The complete game with all components is assembled in-house, quality-checked as a unified product, and shrink-wrapped for retail readiness. No separate vendors, no assembly coordination, no "we only do the cards" limitations.
Standard terms: 30% deposit to start production, 70% balance before shipping. For established clients with ongoing orders, we offer net-30 terms. Payment methods: T/T (wire transfer), Letter of Credit (L/C) for orders over $50,000, and major trade assurance platforms. All payments are backed by our production guarantee: if we miss your confirmed delivery date due to a factory-side issue, we cover the air freight to make up the time. Full pro forma invoice with detailed component-by-component pricing provided before deposit.
We produce multi-language games with native accuracy. Our prepress team handles right-to-left text (Arabic, Hebrew), double-byte characters (Chinese, Japanese, Korean), and specialized diacritics (Vietnamese, Turkish, Polish). We can print different language versions within the same production batch — each language boxed separately — with zero cross-contamination. Barcode and ISBN assignment per language variant. We also partner with native-speaker proofreaders for final file verification before plate-making. Common languages we handle: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
We offer a full range of card stocks: 310gsm blue core (industry standard, excellent snap), 330gsm black core (premium feel, opaque — no light bleed through), 350gsm ivory core (luxury casino-grade), and 100% PVC plastic (waterproof, tear-proof). Finish options include: matte aqueous (smooth, shuffle-friendly), glossy UV (vibrant, protective), soft-touch velvet (luxurious tactile feel), and linen-textured (classic, elegant). All card finishes include a protective varnish layer for durability. We also offer holographic foil cards, cold foil accents, and custom-shaped (die-cut) cards.
Yes. We hold ISO 9001 (quality management), BSCI (social compliance), and Sedex SMETA (ethical trade) certifications. Our board games and card games are tested to EN71 (EU toy safety), ASTM F963 (US toy safety), CPSIA (lead/phthalates), and CE marking requirements. We use non-toxic soy-based inks for all offset printing. FSC-certified paper and board are available upon request. Every shipment includes a full compliance documentation pack: third-party lab test reports (SGS, TUV, or Intertek), certificates of conformity, and material safety data sheets. Audit-ready documentation for retailer onboarding.
